About Apollo Slab Tech Worktops

Apollo Slab Tech represents a new worksurface technology exclusive to Trade Price Worktops. Boasting affordability, durability and aesthetic appeal, Slab Tech has continued to grow in popularity over recent years.

Features of Slab Tech

In addition, all of our Apollo Slab Tech range of products come with a 10 year Limited Manufacturer's Warranty.

Veined Colours

Some colours and styles will contain veining, which is where a style contains swirls, lines, or patterns within the material. The manufacturing processes involved in creating these styles ensure that each piece is random to avoid obvious repetition in your worksurface. As such, please be advised that when purchasing a variant with veining, the final pieces installed may vary from the images displayed on this website.

Dark Colours and Wear

Dark heavily pigmented colours will show scratches, wear and tear more readily than light or textured colours and should not be used in high traffic areas (these colours require a disclaimer form to be completed)

Colour Variations Style

It is very important to decide on the colour used in your kitchen, that's why we offer you an extensive range of colours.

Looking after your Apollo Slab Tech® Worktops

Apollo® Slab Tech worksurfaces not only look very attractive and exude quality; they are designed to withstand the rigours of everyday use. Upon installation an Apollo® Slab Tech worksurface will have an overall satin sheen finish. However, through use, the worksurface acquires a smoother, more silken finish and appearance. Even the cleaning properties appear to improve with use. Unlike most other worksurfaces Apollo® Slab Tech is 'repairable', so little accidents, stains or scratches can usually be removed with relative ease.

Your Installation & Maintenance Kit contains all of the items required to help keep your new worksurface in pristine condition. Stone Guard is an anti-bactericidal surface cleaner specially formulated to tackle grease and grime leaving surfaces sparkling clean with a residual antibacterial effect. Cream Cleaner is a renovating cream cleaner that will remove minor scratches and more stubborn stains from solid surface worktops.

Important: Please read and follow instructions carefully when using care & maintenance products. Always wear rubber gloves when using chemicals to prevent any cracking, drying or other reaction to your skin.

Internal profile edges on double and single radius edge details other than bevelled edges must have a radius of at least 60mm. Bevel edges don't have this constraint as they are hand finished.

The normal joint for these materials will be a standard Butt Joint ending with a 5mm overhang, with additional options of Flush Fitting Butt joints, or a Flush Fitting Mitred Joint.

Apollo Slab Tech Upstands

Upstands refer to an engineered 'back wall' of a worktop, cut from the same style of worktop, and the same batch where possible. For products with excessive variation (for example, the Marmo range), strong patterns will not have direct continuation onto this upstand section, though we will endeavor to provide worktops with a close match.

Upstands can be manufactured to a specified height, and will generally be produced using 20mm Slabs.

Apollo Ceramicá Technical Specifications

Introduction

Apollo® Slab Tech is manufactured from mineral filled polyacrylate/polyester resins. With superior innovative designs, enduring applications and excellent long-term performance, Apollo® Slab Tech is ideal in both residential and commercial environments. Apollo® Slab Tech has proved itself to be a remarkably durable material; it cannot delaminate and stands up well to daily wear and tear.

Joints

Apollo® Slab Tech has inconspicuous and unobtrusive joints, and due to the level of pigment in the material, give the overall appearance of a seamless worksurface.

Thermal expansion

Due to thermal expansion Apollo® Slab Tech can expand up to 1mm per metre. A gap of at least 3mm should be left at each end of the worktop and filled with decorators caulk. When Apollo® Slab Tech is joined to other materials (such as glass, steel or wood) an elastic type of adhesive, for example polyurethane, is required to let parts expand and contract freely.

Hob & Sink cutouts

Hobs must be integrated into an Apollo® Slab Tech worksurface according to specified guidelines. Where an Apollo® Slab Tech splash back or wall cladding is installed a gap of 50mm (minimum) is required behind an electric hob or 100mm (minimum) for a gas hob. A ‘breakfront’ may be necessary to accommodate this requirement. There must be a minimum of 50mm from the cutout to the front of the worktop and a gap of 120mm between heated cutouts. This is required under terms of the product warranty.

Upstands

Apollo® Slab Tech upstands are manufactured and fixed in the factory. Due to manufacturing constraints there may be gaps, as these upstands are manufactured in a straight line. This type of upstand is not suitable for walls where there are large variations in the wall profile. Plastering or tiling should ideally be completed after the worksurface installation.

Hygienic

Apollo® Slab Tech is a non porous material and is naturally resistant to mould, bacteria and mildew.

Tolerance

Tolerance in Apollo® Slab Tech is ±2mm

Overhangs and supports

Any overhang of Apollo® Slab Tech extending more than 300mm must be supported, this distance is reduced to 200mm for 20mm Slab Tech worktops. Apollo® Slab Tech should be supported every 600mm.

Staining

While most tough stains can be buffed away, a level of care and maintenance is required, as spills should be cleaned up immediately.

Scratches

Apollo® Slab Tech is scratch resistant but not scratch proof; the use of chopping boards and/or pastrymates is recommended. Dark, heavily pigmented colours will show scratches, dust and ordinary wear and tear more readily than lighter, textured forms.

Stainless Steel Sinks

Please specify the preferred undermounting of Stainless Steel Sinks. Silicone sealant may be rendered ineffective when plumbing the sink in, it is important that the sink is re-sealed by the plumber, or the 12 months guarantee will be invalid if the work is not carried out.

Repairable

Apollo® Slab Tech can be easily be repaired. Using an ordinary abrasive cleaner and a scouring pad the surface may be fully restored to its original appearance.

Apollo Slab Tech Aesthetics

Points of note

Hob flange needs to sit on aluminium thermal insulation tape around cut-out, to avoid conducting too much heat and causing cracks in the worktop.

Can be made in blanks to adjust on site without compromising any of the above – oversize on the joints then trim to suit. Due to it’s acrylic based composition, Apollo Slab Tech will expand and contract by approximately 1mm per metre – the worksurfaces should not be tightly installed to allow for this movement. A fine layer of dust is inevitable for up to 24 hours after installation. We have fully qualified and vastly experienced installation teams throughout the UK to provide you with an excellent fitting service, if required.

Please note Apollo Slab Tech is batch processed and shades may vary between batches due to Apollo Slab Tech being a blank product.

Dark, heavily pigmented colours will show scratches, dust and ordinary wear and tear more readily than lighter, textured colours.

Apollo Slab Tech is a 20mm or 30mm solid, through coloured, resin filled material derived from natural minerals. Some colours will have random veining and swirls of toning and contrasting colours to have the “look” of Granite, however the base colour remains consistent from the same batch.

All veined Slab Tech joints are seamless but will be more noticeable than with the other colours, the veining will create areas of contrasting colour and veining where the material is cut. The end result will have a similar appearance to the joints achieved with natural Granite but with the advantage of being seamless and therefore being very easy to keep clean and safe.
